12 tips for choosing a wine bottle for Professional Photography.

We often get asked how to choose a wine bottle, for the best results with professional photography. If you would like professional results with minimal editing costs, then this guide is for you. Here are our best tips on how to choose a wine bottle for professional photography.

Here are our 12 tips to help you get the best image with minimal editing.

Send the perfect bottle - Sending a bottle that has been carefully selected and packaged properly will help achieve better results in your images.

1.        Check that the bottle is free of imperfections such as pits, bubbles, or chips.

2.        All bottles have seams in them. Pick a bottle that the seam does not run through the label. Preferably the seam would run down the side of the bottle. The seam affects the way the light hits the bottle.

3.        Inspect each bottle’s fill to make certain that its contents properly occupy the bottle’s neck.

Labels and caps

So much time and effort go into producing the beautiful labels and caps that represent your wine and business, so we go to every effort in making it look it’s best. You can help us by:

4.        Making sure that each bottle’s label and or cap, is clearly printed, and without scuffs or scratches, particularly on any foiled surfaces.

5.        Ensure that the label and or cap, is correctly aligned and at the proper height on the bottle.

6.        Check foils and caps for dents and scrapes.

7. If you print your identity on your caps or foils, select bottles that display a majority of the wording legibly, and preferably centered above the label.

8.        If the text on your label and or caps, wrap around the bottle (so it cannot be all seen from the front) direct us as to which side of the label we should ‘favour’. This is usually where your label consumes significant horizontal space on your bottle.

9.        Double check the label/cap content to insure it contains the correct vintage year and other destination-specific information.

10.        If you plan to use the photos for international marketing (you may wish to send us separate bottles for each of your markets if your labeling varies significantly), please identify which label is intended for which country.

11.     If you would like flat lay images of your labels please send the labels and caps separately (ie not attached to a bottle).

Whites and Light-coloured wines

( e.g. Rose, Sparkling’s, Champagne, Dessert Wines )

We love photographing white and light-coloured wines and love how the light travels through these amazing liquids. For the best results in photography there are a few things we do to ensure your images look as clean as possible.

12. We remove the rear label from the back of the wine bottle. The rear label can be seen when photographed and is distracting. This is not an issue with Red Wine as the liquids are darker and the light travelling through the bottle does not reveal the back label. You may also choose to send us a bottle without a rear label.
